Long ago, the mountains whispered and the rocks moved with their own steps. The mountain spirit of Geumgangsan, eager to create the most magnificent peaks, called upon the finest rocks.

산도 속삭이고, 바위도 걸음을 옮기던 아득한 시절이 있었습니다.
하늘의 뜻을 받들어 가장 빼어난 산을 빚으려던 금강산 산신은, 기품 있는 바위들을 불러 모았습니다.

“Let us create a landscape of twelve thousand peaks, a masterpiece of the world. Those with noble stature and firm resolve, come to Geumgangsan!”

“일만 이천 봉우리를 세워 천하 절경을 이루리라. 훌륭한 자태와 굳건한 결을 지닌 바위들은 모두 금강산으로 오라!”

This word traveled on the wind, reaching even the distant land of Ulsan in the deep south of Korea.
There, stood Ulsan Rock, towering towards the heavens with a majestic presence, remaining steadfast even through the ages.

소문은 바람결을 타고 멀리, 경상도 깊숙한 울산 땅까지 흘러갔습니다.
그곳에는 하늘을 찌를 듯 웅장하고, 오랜 세월에도 굳건한 기상을 자랑하는 ‘울산바위’가 있었습니다.

Ulsan Rock murmured, “My place is there, in Geumgangsan.”

울산바위는 말했습니다. “내 자리는 바로 저곳이로다.”

With a slow step, Ulsan Rock began its journey, guided by the moonlight and the waves of the East Sea. Yet, its massive size made each step sluggish, and the journey was long.

그는 묵묵히 발을 떼었습니다. 동해의 푸른 물결을 벗 삼아, 밤하늘 달빛을 길잡이 삼아 북으로 향했습니다.
하지만 거대한 몸집만큼이나 발걸음은 더디기만 했습니다.
하루에 한 걸음, 고독한 여정이 이어졌습니다.

Finally, Ulsan Rock reached the lush slopes of Seoraksan. “The road is so long and treacherous. I must rest for a moment,” it thought and closed its heavy eyelids.

어느덧 울산바위는 설악산의 울창한 자락에 이르렀습니다.
“아, 길이 참으로 멀고 험하구나. 잠시만 쉬었다 가야겠다.”
무거운 눈꺼풀을 잠시 감았습니다.

During this brief moment of rest, an unexpected news reached Ulsan Rock’s ears. Geumgangsan had already completed its twelve thousand peaks and stood as the most magnificent mountain in the land.

그 짧은 휴식의 순간, 울산바위의 귀에 뜻밖의 소식이 들려왔습니다.
금강산이 이미 일만 이천 봉우리를 완성하고,
천하의 명산으로 우뚝 섰다는 소식이었습니다.

Ulsan Rock opened its eyes slowly. A deep sorrow pressed upon its massive heart. “I have failed… I did not reach Geumgangsan.”

울산바위는 천천히 눈을 떴습니다. 짙은 아쉬움이 그의 거대한 심장을 짓눌렀습니다.
“결국… 금강산의 장엄한 모습조차 보지 못했구나.”

The journey back to Ulsan seemed far, and its heart sank into silence. But Ulsan Rock could not turn back. It paused, standing still in place.

울산으로 되돌아가는 길은 까마득했고, 그의 마음은 무거운 침묵에 잠겼습니다.
그는 발길을 돌리지 못하고, 그 자리에 멈춰 섰습니다.

Seoraksan, with its vast embrace, welcomed Ulsan Rock.
The sorrow of not reaching Geumgangsan soon faded as it realized that true beauty does not lie in reaching a destination,
but in revealing one’s essence in the place where one stands.

설악산은 넉넉한 품으로 그를 감쌌습니다.
금강산에 닿지 못한 깊은 아쉬움이 한때 울산바위를 덮었지만, 그는 곧 깨달았습니다.
진정한 아름다움은 정해진 목적지에 도달하는 것에 있지 않고,
바로 자신이 서 있는 그 자리에서 존재감을 드러내는 것임을.

Ulsan Rock rose once again, towering in Seoraksan,
its grand presence adding depth and majesty to the landscape.
Winds passed by, clouds lingered, and countless years went by,
yet Ulsan Rock remained. To this day,
it silently speaks of the true meaning of beauty—through its unwavering form,
as part of Seoraksan’s timeless landscape.

울산바위는 설악산의 품 안에서, 자신의 거대한 크기만큼 웅장한 기세로 솟아올랐습니다. 그의 존재는 설악산의 풍경을 더욱 깊게 장엄하게 만들었습니다.
바람이 불어 그의 곁을 지나고, 구름이 머물렀습니다. 흘러가고, 수많은 세월이 흘렀지만,
울산바위는 오늘도 그 자리에서 묵묵히,
